New York Days 1-3

Okay after the weekend of get togethers with family we have not seen in ages, we got toNYC.

Just a brief account (and no pictures)

Day 1:
First drive to NYC from NJ (about an hour drive, depending on traffic) via the Holland Tunnel and trying to find parking. We finally found an all day parking for $32 in Chinatown. After some lunch we checked out the Brooklyn Bridge( and the surrounding buildings (quite impressive). Walked around and made our way to the WTC Ground Zero. We did not go to the Memorials at this time because we had dad with us and his mobility in a wheelchair was not the best. We had to push him around and lift him up and over curbs.

Took the Staten Island Ferry and observed the Statue of Liberty from afar and then immediately took it back to Manhattan. Went to Wall Street and saw the NYSE Building and one of Trumps buildings. Went to Chinatown and Little Italy and ate at La Mela.

Day 2:
Times SQuare: Went to Hard Rock Cafe for lunch and then went to TKTS and waited in line for some cheap tix. Waited for an hour before it opened and was able to get Hairspray tix for 1/2 price....location: Orchestra seats, back 9 rows in the centre!!! Not bad and a great show. Diana DeGarmo from American Idol was in it...pretty cool to see someone from TV in person.

Walked around and checked out Radio City Music Hall and NBC Studios (just the outside) and then to Rockefeller Centre. Saw St. Patrick Cathedral and checked out 5th Ave and some of the expensive stores. We went to Central Park (south) and just hung out there for a bit and took pix before heading for supper at Europa Cafe. Cool thing was that it was across the street from the Ed Sullivan Theatre Late Show with David Letterman. Went to Hersey store and bought some chocolate. We saw The Original Hersey Automatic Gravitational Chocolate Machine. Bunch of kids were trick or treating there and the staff said all we had to so was say the same and we would get some treats (costume or no costume)...so we ALL got free chocolate!!!! SWEET!!!! (hahaha...get it?!?)

Even though it was Halloween, we did not see a lot of people dressed up,just a few here and there. There was a Halloween parade in Greenwich Village but we were watching Hairspray at the time and could not get there.

Day 3:

Saw Madison Square Garden and went to The Empire State Building. Again we went to TKTS and waited another hour before getting 1/2 price tix to Beauty and the Beast: 10 rows back and to the right...still not bad. We were hoping for Lion King tix but no luck! The show featured Donny Osmond (as Gaston) and when it was over,we waited outside for him and got a few pic of him signing autographs. My sis tried to get his autograph but his security dude eventually scooted him away.
Other than that time was spent on 34 St, checking out the shops.
